
Ibajay, Aklan — A tragic incident unfolded Friday morning, August 8, 2025, when Vice Mayor Julio Estolloso of Ibajay town was fatally shot inside the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Session Hall by a fellow local official.
The alleged assailant, SB Member Mihrel Senatin, is now in police custody following the fatal shooting that occurred shortly after 9 a.m., according to Major Rajiv Salbino, chief of the Ibajay Municipal Police Station.
Initial police reports indicate that Senatin entered the SB Office and requested copies of ordinances he had authored during his term. He then confronted Vice Mayor Estolloso, reportedly asking if there was any issue between them. Moments later, Senatin allegedly drew a firearm and shot the vice mayor.
Investigators confirmed that six gunshots were heard during the incident. Estolloso sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest and was declared dead at the scene.
Authorities recovered a Gloc 17 9mm pistol believed to have been used in the shooting. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
As of this report, the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Police have launched a full investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and any possible underlying conflict between the two officials.
The local government of Ibajay has yet to issue an official statement regarding the tragedy.
