Slovak tourist Michaela Mickova, 23, disappeared during her trip to Boracay. Her decomposed body was discovered in an abandoned chapel, causing widespread outrage.

  • Investigators found evidence of blunt force trauma and abuse.
  • Two suspects with prior drug-related records were taken into custody, identified through witness testimonies.
  • Authorities pledged to bring justice for Mickova while strengthening security measures to ensure the safety of Boracay.
  • This unprecedented tragedy has deeply impacted the island community and those who knew her.

On March 1, Michaela Mickova, a 23-year-old Slovak national, arrived on the picturesque island of Boracay in the Philippines. She was there to attend the wedding of a Filipino friend and stayed at a local resort, enjoying the island's renowned beauty. However, what began as a joyful trip turned into a tragic mystery.

On March 10, Mickova was reported missing. Her disappearance raised concerns, and efforts to locate her began. Two days later, on March 12, her lifeless body was discovered in an abandoned chapel in Barangay Balabag, Malay town, Boracay Island. The police reported that her body was in a state of decomposition and that she was found without lower garments. This shocking discovery sent ripples of fear and sadness across the community.

The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO 6) released a statement condemning the heinous crime and vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice. "Our primary goal is to deliver justice to the family and loved ones of Michaela Mickova—a beloved daughter, a friend to many, and a young woman full of love for life," the statement read.

As the investigation unfolded, the Aklan Police Provincial Office confirmed that the Malay Municipal Police Station had launched a thorough probe into the incident. Authorities diligently gathered evidence and testimonies to determine the cause of Mickova's death and identify potential suspects. Despite the gravity of the case, the police assured the public that Boracay remained safe, implementing stricter security measures, including increased patrols and police presence.

On March 13, Philippine National Police (PNP) Public Information Office chief Police Colonel Randulf Tuaño revealed that Mickova's body bore signs of blunt force trauma and sexual abuse, as confirmed by a medical examiner's report. The PNP also coordinated with the Slovak Republic Consulate in the Philippines regarding the case.

By March 17, significant progress had been made in the investigation. In a press briefing, Colonel Tuaño announced that accounts from nine witnesses had led to the identification of three persons of interest. Of these, two individuals were already in police custody under the Police Regional Office 6. Tuaño further disclosed that the two arrested individuals had prior records of illegal drug cases in 2024.

"This is the first time such an incident has occurred in Boracay," said Brigadier General Jack Wanky, chief of Western Visayas police. "There have been no such incidents in the past. This is the first time."

The tragic death of Michaela Mickova has left a lasting impact on the Boracay community and beyond. As the investigation continues, authorities remain steadfast in their commitment to uncover the truth and ensure justice for Michaela and her loved ones.
