The speculation about the occurrence of an atomic explosion in Ancient India has been backed up by the great literary work of Mahabharata, as it described a certain devastation during the ancient period.

"A single projectile charged with all the power in the Universe…An incandescent column of smoke and flame as bright as 10,000 suns, rose in all its splendor…it was an unknown weapon, an iron thunderbolt, a gigantic messenger of death which reduced to ashes an entire race.
"The corpses were so burned as to be unrecognizable. Their hair and nails fell out, pottery broke without any apparent cause, and the birds turned white.
"After a few hours, all foodstuffs were infected. To escape from this fire, the soldiers threw themselves into the river."
Historians considers the atomic blast in Hiroshima and Nagasaki as comparable to the one described in Mahabharata. Kisari Mohan Ganguli said that Mahabharata stated the details of the explosion which took place thousands of years ago and that it was part of an ancient battle referred to as Drona Parva.

There are also proofs that Rama empire, now called India, was devastated by nuclear wars. The Indus valley, now Thar desert, is the actual location of the site where rapid radioactive materials emission is taking place. These are based from some archaeological researches and from Mahabharata itself.
