LOVE: The Universal Reason of Everything

One afternoon, I was walking along the street close to my workplace and saw how beautiful the sunset was. I saw a lot of excited people, who were in a hurry to go home probably so eager to see their families after a whole day of work. Everything was sound.

From a not so far mall entrance where elites usually go for shopping, there was this man who wore an old navy blue pants matched with a white long sleeves tucked in together. He was wearing a cap and from that, you will know that he works as a security guard. I tried to look at him as close as I could because I felt something in him that really made me feel like love was present. Then I saw his eyes. He was not looking at me.

I found out that the man was half asleep. He must have started his shift at 4a.m. and it might end at 7.p.m, depending on how he deals with the over-time pay. As I secretly examine the man, I could barely see that his eyes were too tired. However, he does if for his family. He does it for love.

Meanwhile, during the time I was looking for the perfect time to untie my interest on him, I saw a woman of mid-30s in the middle of the street. Unlike the man, this 30-year old lady wore nothing but an old, ragged and dirty as a wet charcoal white shirt which turned out to be black. As my eyes scanned through her whole physical persona, I noticed her eyes and they were crying from the inside. They were hoping for a better life in the future. She turned her eyes to each of the people she met on the road asking them ‘a piece of bread may do,’ or ‘please help me feed my children.’ She might be a mother to two or four, I was not sure. She continued to seek for some helping hands to show her a brighter tomorrow for her family. I was certain that her eyes were mourning. But she does it for her children. She does it for love.

Then as I walked faster, those two people my eyes went through were not aliens in me anymore. They became part of me because through them, I could see why people live. For all those hardships, ups and downs, struggles and everything in between, I discovered why people still do it; why people still choose to wake up in the morning with life’s uncertainties; why that security guard still resists the calling of sleep; why that 30-year old woman still engages with the heat of the sun everyday; why my mother still chooses to go to work despite the stress she gets from it; why my father goes on and on with his tons of work—now I know. They do it for love. We do it for love.
