PBA Rookie Terrence Romeo Failed to Outmatch King Mark “the Spark“ Caguioa

"Sobrang saya po siyempre. Di ko po maipaliwang yung nandun lang sa katawan ko. Sobrang idol ko po si kuya Mark at nakalaban ko siya ng ganun. Even kahit naka-side na tira niya nasu-shoot niya pa rin.”

These were the lines that Global Port Batang Pier’s rookie, Terrence Romeo spoke when he played head-to-head with his idol Mark Cagiuoa for the first time in his Rookie year in the Philippine Basketball Association. It was a very unforgettable experience for Terrence to exchange blows with Caguioa, whom he considers as one of the best basketball icons in PBA history.

There's no doubt about the skills of Terrence Romeo. He shot the lights out in their last game when he exploded with 34 points. But he came short when he faced his idol Mark Caguioa . The shooting guard of Barangay Ginebra outmatched the youngster in an exciting fourth quarter shootout to let the Ginebra Kings pull away with a 109-104 victory over the Global Port Batang Pier at the Mall of Asia Arena on Thursday.

“Nung fourth quarter, he kept scoring. I said, you know what, I gotta do something,” said Caguioa.

Mark also added that he became more competent because of Romeo’s offensive outburst. Caguioa finished the game with 29 points while Romeo had 27.

Gin Kings star point guard LA Tenorio finished with 15 points and nine assists. While the big men connection of Japeth Aguilar and Greg Slaughter chipped in 18 and 17 points, respectively. Slaughter also grabbed 11 rebounds. The win gave them their third straight victory in PLDT MyDSL PBA Philippine Cup, which is scheduled to end in February 2014.
