The Demolition Man Danny Ildefonso suited up for the Meralco Bolts in a win over Air21
Two-time PBA Most Valuable Player Danny Ildefonso finally landed on a team which can utilize his veteran smart talents when Meralco agreed to sign him on a one conference-contract with the Bolts last December. He has been a free agent for two months before he signed a contract with Meralco.
Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio said that the acquisition of Ildefonso will add the size and experience to the team, who desperately needs to make one last push for the playoffs in the PLDT myDSL-PBA Philippine Cup. Meralco Bolts is on a four-game losing skid before Ildefonso joined the team.
Ildefonso has yet to play competitive basketball since his brief stint during last season’s Governors Cup Finals, where his team for 15 seasons, Petron, lost to San Mig Coffee.
The Urdaneta, Pangasinan native played just 14 games the whole of last season, finishing with career-low averages of 1.2 points and 1.5 rebounds(pba-online.net).
In an interview conducted by spin.ph, Gregrio said that they signed Danny Ildefonso until the end of the conference and that his presence will give the team more ceiling and maturity.
Danny Ildefonso didn’t show any rust in his game when he played for the Bolts during their match against the Air21 Express. The former PBA MVP showed everyone that there’s still a lot of gas left in his tank when he showed some blazing MVP moves and gave Meralco a 92-88 overtime win in the PBA Philippine Cup last Saturday. He tallied 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists while his teammate Gary David became the game’s top scorer where he recorded a total of 34 points.
