In an interview, Juan Manuel Marquez was quoted by Reuters as saying,
"It would be better to look for another kind of rival. Another rival. I'm not going to say any names. But a fifth fight (against Pacquiao) would be pointless."
Marquez was speaking at a state worker's union in Mexico City on Wednesday (Thursday, PHL time), when he made the comments.
"We managed to defeat our rival, the Filipino Manny Pacquaio, and we managed to do (sic) win convincingly. I had said, regardless of the outcome of the fight, that I would retire. It's a very exhausting sport. It's very difficult. But the result was positive, and it was a convincing, strong knockout.
"I wouldn't want a fifth fight because we got what we wanted. We accomplished the objective we had."
Co-promoter Bob Arum recently told ESPN's Dan Rafael that Marquez wanted to see the results of two fights, Timothy Bradley Jr. versus Ruslan Provodnikov, and Brandon Rios versus Mike Alvarado, before deciding on his next opponent.
