Many citizens found satisfaction for allowing Mayor Stubbs hold that position. “He doesn't raise our taxes—we have no sales tax. He doesn't interfere with business. He’s honest,” said Stec, who transformed his store into a part-time mayor’s office when Stubbs rose to victory. Although dogs outnumber cats in Talkeetna, Stec claimed that he had never seen those dogs mess up with Mayor Stubbs.
Stubbs gave Talkeetna an opportunity to become a tourist attraction and draw tourists to stop by their town while they are on their way to Mount McKinley. It was said that about a dozen tourists go and visit him everyday which is somehow a significant contribution in a town’s takings. The honorable Mr. Stubbs doesn't have too many responsibilities as mayor, since the town is technically only a “historical district,” says Andi Manning, the president of the Chamber of Commerce explained.
Just like other politicians, Mayor Stubbs isn’t exactly a perfect one. He isn’t displaying any hardwork most of the time and he prefer to drink water out of the wine glass with a catnip and have his belly rubbed by constituents. A clerk depicts Mayor Stubbs as a very demanding “Poli-Kitten” who needs long hours of nap for him to survive bulks of work that typical cats don’t usually do. So he isn't the ideal politician that most of us were looking for after all. Nevertheless, just the thought of cuddling and stroking the cute Mayor may relieve us from having political anxieties.
Meanwhile, on August 31, 2013, Stubbs sustained critical injuries after a dog attack. Stubbs suffered a punctured lung, a fractured sternum, and a deep cut in his side. He was rushed to a veterinary hospital and was under medication for nine days. The locals set up an online donation campaign to help him pay his hospital bills. Donations were reportedly received from around the world. (wikipedia, CNN, dailymail)
