UFC 167’s most-awaited Welterweight battle between Georges “Rush” St. Pierre and Johny Hendricks is in the books and St. Pierre retained the championship belt in what was without a doubt the hardest encounter of his career. The fight was said to be one of the biggest bouts in what has been the greatest year in the history of the UFC. St. Pierre had a multitude of potential UFC records on the line, including most wins. Hendricks seemed to have the upper hand over the Canadian champion for most of the five rounds, landing more significant blows and limiting any damage inflicted. Two judges scored it 48-47 for St. Pierre, and the third had it 48-47 for Hendricks. When the decision was announced, the UFC crowd got surprised and were shocked upon hearing the judges favoring the champion. It was a great battle between two great UFC warriors but a battered GSP took home the stunning split decision. St. Pierre stepped away from MMA for a bit in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan.

GSP's controversial win extends his winning streak to 12 fights but obviously his latest bout wasn't impressive enough to convince the UFC fans. Expect heated discussions on various online forums.

Meanwhile, according to CBC sports, UFC president Dana White got irritated and reacted to the decision for St-Pierre in disbelief. He wondered out loud how anyone could score the fight for the champion.

"The UFC president has called the attention of Nevada governor to launch an investigation into the Nevada State Athletic Commission," it added.
