Philippines' secret Weapon: TV5 reporter, Michelle Mediana, turned celebrity in Taiwan

TV5 reporter Michelle Mediana, dubbed as the Philippines' secret weapon against Taiwan, was asked by Taiwanese journalists if she has a boyfriend in this photo posted on Instagram on Thursday by ABS-CBN reporter Nikolo Baua.

"A peaceful end to the diplomatic row between the Philippines and Taiwan could be in sight, courtesy of a charm offensive by TV5 news reporter Michelle Mediana", interaksyon news said on its publication.

Mediana drastically changed the atmosphere of the diplomatic row between Philippines and Taiwan as she has turned into something of a celebrity in Taiwan since she arrived in the country to cover the aftermath of the fatal shooting of a Taiwanese fisherman by a Philippine Coast Guard vessel.

ABS-CBN reporter Nikolo Baua said it was already the third time she was interviewed by Taiwanese media. Their fascination for Mediana is a refreshing break from recent reports of incidents of harassment being suffered by Fillipino expatriate workers from angry Taiwanese.

At least two Taiwanese news sites searched the photos and info of Mediana from her own Facebook account and now call her by her nickname Mischi. The Google translation of the Chinese text is too crude to quote here, but both websites amusingly labeled Mediana’s posting in Taiwan a “conspiracy”.
