POS Cashier Deliberately Used the Credit Card Left by Her Customer, Spent Around P50K

A certain POS cashier working in a famous luxury mall in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig allegedly spent the credits of a cardholder. The cashier reportedly did not return the credit card to the owner.

A customer was unaware that her credit card was left at the cashier station. Four days passed, she learned that a huge amount was deducted to her credit due to multiple purchases made by the suspect. To the best of the cardholder's knowledge, the last transaction she had was on June 15, 2017.

The cardholder only known as April sought the assistance of Taguig police and aid from the card issuer to pursue legal action against the suspect. With the cooperation of the bank legal helpdesk and cops of Taguig city, the cashier was immeditely captured.

Authorities identified the cashier as Merilyn Joy Sanggalang Gomez, 22 years old. She is an employee of a hardware store in Market Market, Taguig. She lives in Brgy. Pembo, Makati City.

During the interrogation, the suspect admitted to the police that she deliberately used the credit card with the help of her boyfriend and live-in partner who works as a security guard.

The victim was later informed by the police investigators that her credit card was used by Merilyn Joy Gomez in different malls in Metro Manila and even in Pangasinan. She easily completed multiple transactions. The total estimate of the fraudulent purchases was around P48,000 or approximately $1000USD.

The cashier will be charged for violating Republic Act #8484 also known as the "Access Devices Regulation Act of 1998."

Merilyn could face a fine of "Ten thousand pesos (P10,000.00) or twice the value obtained by the offense, whichever is greater and imprisonment for not less than six (6) years and not more than ten (20) years".
