Joanne Reyes, 20-year old student from the University of Santo Tomas (UST), is the most recent victim of campus violence. Joanne was attacked inside the campus of Far Eastern University (FEU) last Tuesday by a group of young women who were apparently coeds at the school and armed with knives & pepper spray.

Joanne recalled the details of the assault when interviewed by GMA news but as of this writing the victim still doesn't have any clue on why she was attacked. Below are the series of events that took place including the alleged attack inside the FEU campus.

  • Joanne Reyes went to FEU to see a film wearing a UST engineering t-shirt
  • After watching the film, Joanne waited her friend at the FEU science building
  • She was confronted by five unfamiliar girls who asked what she was doing out there
  • After a few seconds, Joanne recalled that someone (could be one of those five suspects) sprayed something on her eyes
  • She struggled breathing and the spray resulted to poor visibility
  • Someone stabbed her in the stomach and felt another stab in the back
  • Five suspects left fast from the crime scene
  • Reyes’ other friend could not come to her rescue after being sprayed as well

Joanne Reyes was rushed to the Chinese General Hospital in Manila. She suffered five wounds in the back, one in the stomach, and one in the back of her head.

If not for her backpack which cushioned the stabs in her back, her wounds could have been deeper and fatal. She can now talk, but still needs support in walking.

Meanwhile, the police have identified one of the suspects and gave Reyes’ family a copy of her picture. As of press time, no warrant of arrest has been issued yet.

The family of Joanne Reyes is determined to file frustrated murder against the five suspects.
