Janine Tugonon, 23-year-old BS Pharmacy Cum Laude from the University of Santo Tomas, represented the Philippines at the 61st Miss Universe pageant held at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino,Las Vegas, Nevada.
Janine Tugonon brought great honor and pride to the country by finishing 1st runner-up in the Miss Universe 2012.
Miss Universe judge and fashion photographer Nigel Barker, who was picked at random by Tugonon, asked the Filipina, “As an international ambassador, do you believe that speaking English should be a pre-requisite to be Miss Universe? Why or Why not?”.
Janine Tugonon answered, "For me, being Miss Universe is not just about knowing how to speak a specific language. It's being able to influence and inspire other people. So whatever language you have, as long as your heart is to serve and you have a strong mind to — to show to people, then you can be Miss Universe."-Watch Youtube video below.
Her poise during the question and answer portion is as endearing as her "cobra walk" and it showed that Janine has the brains to match her beauty.
Many avid fans of Miss Universe especially the Filipinos made remarkable comments on why
Miss USA Olivia Culpo got the crown of Miss Universe 2012 where in fact Miss USA's answer was a bif off from the question that was asked to her. Towards the end of the coronation night, Miss Universe 1st runner up, Janine Tugonon, was asked if it was justifiable that Miss USA took the crown and Miss Tugonon replied that she has wholeheartedly accepted that Miss USA won the pageant. Janine Tugonon-on a separate interview said that we just have to be happy for the award she received in the event.
However, many Filipinos still believe that Janine Tugonon deserves the crown of Miss Universe 2012.
