Stephen Sondheim, an American composer and lyricist known for his immense contribution in musical play, extended his work and produced 'Into the woods'. It is originally a stage show opened in the US in 1987 and has been revived constantly. The film has been adapted from the book of James Lapine, who wrote it for Sondheim production.

The movie was intensively analyzed by Bruno Bettleheim, a classic analyst of fairytales. Bruno said it is a mystic mash up of known Disney movies such as Rapunzel, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the beanstalk with a bit of David and Goliath somewhere in the movie too.

Into the Woods is about the baker and his wife whose been cursed with childlessness by the old crone next door and cannot reverse it until they bring her a red cape, golden slipper, white cow and a lock of yellow hair. That’s where Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack of beanstalk fame and Rapunzel come in.

Meryl Steep, the Devils Prada editor, plays the role of a witch. She is reliably good in performing her role. Emily Blunt plays as the baker’s wife and James Corden as the baker himself. There's a lot of well-known Hollywood celebrities in the picture too including Pirates of the Caribbean actor Johnny Depp who plays minor role as the wolf, Tracey Ullman as Jack’s mother, Annette Crosbie as Cinderella’s granny and Simon Russel Beale as the baker’s father while Anna Kendrick plays as the Cinderella, Daniel Huttlestone as Jack of beanstalk fame and Mackenzie Mauzy as the long hair Rapunzel. Into the Woods is robustly directed by Rob Marshall.

In the beginning of the trailer everyone was hear saying “I wish”. Wishing stops when suddenly a witch came to threaten everyone. “Be careful what you wish for...” was also mentioned in the trailer. I don’t know what they are wishing for, so I can’t really wait to watch the movie to find it out!

Into the Woods will hit the Philippine cinemas on January 28, 2015!
