Fernando Mendoza, 84-year-old beggar in photo Grateful to Cops (Davao City)
Despite the difficulty in talking due to a stroke some time last year, the 84-year-old beggar-Fernando Mendoza, is full of praises to policemen who helped him on Palm Sunday.
PO1 Jessie R. Mallari and his fellow policeman moved him to the shade when they noticed that he was already under the hot sun later that day.
After doing so, Mallari checked on Mendoza’s bandage since he noticed that a wound was bleeding. That was when Sun.Star Davao photographer Seth delos Reyes spotted them and took a photo.
The policemen immediately called Central 911 to help the old man when they saw him with blood in his head.
Fernando Mendoza accidentally hit his head while outside the San Pedro Cathedral during the Palm Sunday celebration.
It was learned that the same policemen from the San Pedro Police Precinct went to the beggar's house last Monday afternoon to bring him to the City Health Office for a medical checkup.
Aside from knee pain, Mendoza is also suffering from high blood and osteoporosis.
Fernando Mendoza worked for the former owner of Durian Hotel since 1982. He worked some stuff in the warehouse and he also did gardening. But he was brought home last year after suffering from a stroke. - SunStar
