BEWARE of Ghetto “water and stone” Snipers along Floodway Pasig-Cainta-Taytay

BEWARE of Ghetto “water and stone” Snipers along Floodway Pasig-Cainta-Taytay

A friend of mine used to go home late because of her night schedule in our school, couple that with some extra curricular activities and extended hours for group discussions. We often ride a jeep en route to JRC-Binangonan via Floodway.

In case you are not yet familiar about the place we call “Floodway”, here’s a short description for you guys.

The Manggahan Floodway is an artificially constructed waterway in Metro Manila. We used to call Eastbank Road as simply “Floodway”. This road extends from Pasig territory, up to Taytay area, while passing Pasig-Cainta and Taytay-Cainta boundary along the way.

Since we often go home late, things aren't as safe as it is during daytime. Roads are not well lit, bystanders and drunk civilians can be seen from the window of our jeepney.

When we were approaching “Anakpawis” , a water ball was thrown to us, which made us soaking wet! If getting wet isn’t that much of a big deal for you, what if I tell you that the water that they threw to us came from the drainage or from the contaminated Pasig river? The stinky smell of the water coming from dirty ducts just made us more angry. Other passengers got wet too but we just decided to let it go and proceed with our trip. It was also not our intention to start a riot against those uneducated children or teenagers because we did not want anyone from us to get hurt, the passengers and the driver to be more specific.

Then, when we arrived at “Fishport” Taytay Rizal, we heard a loud beat and my friend suddenly shouted in pain. I asked her what happened. She said, someone hit her with a stone. Someone threw a rock right into her forehead!

I get a little bit uneasy whenever I see blood so I wasn't able to check her out right away. Good thing no blood was shed during that incident. But it just gave us the feeling that we are really unsafe every time we pass through that road.

In behalf of my friend and all the passengers that have experienced the same thing or those who will possibly experience the same incident while passing that road, I would like to appeal to the local government of Pasig, Taytay, and Cainta to do proper actions and safety measures to ensure the well-being of the commuters.
