You used to sing those little tunes
With your little squeaky voice
And dance around from room to room
Running with your toys

You used to cry yourself to sleep
When your dad comes home late
But then next morning you'll forget
You'll wake up feeling great

You'll skip around the house
While you watch those Disney shows
Then you say those fancy words
But the meanings you don't know

With all that skipping, you get hurt
But your mom comes right to you
She'll put a band aid on your wound
Then you're ok just like she knew

With those big eyes and curly hair
You'll give your dad a look
He'll say no and will say enough
But he would still buy you that book

All of those are memories
Of the moments that you had
Because now you're on your own
With many things to understand

Now you sing meaningful songs
Some from matters of the heart
Some from friends and relationships
That now drifted apart

You'll cry yourself to sleep
And will feel like you're alone
You won't need the band aid though
Because you'll wake up strong 

Now every word you hear
You don't easily believe
‘Cause you fear that you'll get hurt
You fear that they'll just leave

But all of those are not just fears
They turned to principles
You grew up with all the wisdom
Cause life's no longer simple

Soon after you're on your own
And some things just won't matter
But all you've been through got you there
Different from any other

And so I've said all I need
This poem will be over
