Welcome back, Disney! | Movie Review of Walt Disney’s FROZEN

I would probably be biased with this movie review since I've been a “Disnerd” ever since I knew how to sing. Disney’s been such an inspiration to me that I can’t explain that certain feeling I get whenever I watch their movies.

So why “Welcome back, Disney!”? Well, there’s been a time when I almost accepted the fact that Disney will no longer have the same effect on me as they did with classic 2D films. Some of my all-time favorites included Mulan, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Hercules, Aladdin and Beauty and The Beast. All movies gave me that feeling of being lost in another world of wonder, love and music. There’s that unexplainable magic I feel every time I watch these classic Disney films. But there came to a point when they stopped making 2D films and concentrated on the 3D movies like Shrek, Chicken Little, Monster’s Inc., The Incredibles, etc. Don’t get me wrong. It’s not that these films are no good. They’re wonderfully and artistically made. It’s just that, to me, I didn’t find the magical feeling I felt when singing along with the characters of the old classic Disney.

Then...
Disney decided to recreate the hand drawn films again with “Princess and the Frog”. It was beautiful! The story, the music, cast, everything! BUT, I just can’t figure out why it didn't’t have the same effect on me as the other 2D films. I didn't memorize the songs. Knowing me, I memorize every Disney song in every Disney musical; although the Princess and the Frog songs were beautifully made and sung. Maybe it’s because in half of the film, they were just frogs. I don’t know. I can’t explain it.

They even made Enchanted and Tangled which made me think “Wow! I guess Disney’s heading to a new direction with the way they make their films. I can’t expect the 2D classics anymore.” With Tangled though, I most definitely felt the magic again. Especially with the “I see the light”; one of the most heat felt scenes I’ve seen in Disney Musicals.

But now here's FROZEN! I say again “WELCOME BACK, DISNEY!” The feeling of nostalgia and the old Disney magic came all over me again.

Premise: Fearless optimist Anna teams up with Kristoff in an epic journey, encountering Everest-like conditions, and a hilarious snowman named Olaf in a race to find Anna's sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom in eternal winter. - IMDB

The characters are well established from the beginning. The way they showed the relationship between Elsa and Ana as kids, was well thought of. They didn't need to take too much time with it while giving you the emotional background. The music “Do you wanna build a snowman?” didn't fail to make me tear up and neither did it fail in making the audience in the cinema go “Aww!” I like the new touch they did with this film. The comedy is subtle but effective. Everything is light, easy and fun in the beginning but gave you the heavy, emotional feeling from the middle to the end.

The amusing creatures along with them like Spencer, Olaf and The Trolls were all given the most original characteristics. There were similarities between the reindeer and the horse from Tangled, both very charming and funny! Oh and OLAF! My goodness, how cute could Olaf be? He’s lovable, funny, and everything nice in this film. He’s probably the reason why most of the people see the movie.

THE MUSICAL Score and OST!
The music is unbelievable! It’s probably one of the reasons why I say “Welcome back, Disney!” I've never had so much goose bump in one film before. From “Do you wanna build a snowman” to “For the first time in forever” to “Let it go” - A-MA-ZING, jaw dropping melodies. I've memorized their soundtrack even before I've seen the film. THAT’S how beautiful I thought the songs were. I saw the Disney Magic in this one and I want and I HAVE to see it again.

I like how it teaches us the value of TRUE love. ♥♥♥
