The technological advancement of mankind has driven major changes in our society. Some people even believe that we are nearing the era where everything is possible. Even climate and weather manipulation has become a major subject in and out of the scientific community because of the innovations we have in the past years.

Are the current hi-tech inventions enough to alter the weather condition in our planet?

Before I will give you my opinion on weather manipulation, let me talk about the Hollywood movie titled “500 MPH STORM.”

While creating a sustainable energy source, the experiment of scientists--Michael Beach and Chad Brummett, accidentally triggered tornadoes and hurricanes which became a threat to planet Earth. A high school science teacher (Casper VanDien), his son(Bryan Head) and wife(not credited)ran for their lives until a solution to shut the storms down became available.

This low budget movie isn’t worth watching if you are a regular movie goer who had seen fantastic movies with over the top special effects from time to time. The acting, editing, and film effects are a little bit terrible as well. However, it isn't that bad if you would ask me since I’m after the story and its correlation to the recent typhoon that struck my country, Philippines. I also wrote this article not to give this movie a free plug, but to give each of you an idea that parts of the film can actually happen in real life.

The conspiracy theory of Weather Manipulation

A few weeks ago, one of the strongest and deadliest typhoon the world ever had, super typhoon Haiyan ( Yolanda ), wrecked havoc in the Philippines,. It killed thousands of lives, mainly in areas like Tacloban and Leyte. The death toll was unimaginable. The survivors are still holding on to their lives as food supply, water, electricity, and other basic necessities are unavailable. (Good thing, the Philippine government as well as many countries from around the globe, international governing bodies and NGO’s are quick on their feet when it comes to aiding all the affected families).

Many people deduced that the wrath of God created such calamity, others believed that it was just a natural phenomenon, and some claimed it’s one of the effects of climate change. But some naysayers claim that it is purely man-made.

Have you heard about HAARP?

High-Frequency Active Auroral Research Program is a high-powered radio transmission research facility jointly operated by the US Navy, Air Force and several universities. Because it's a classified government project , no one can fully explain what it exactly does. This gave birth to some theories attempting to explain the use of HAARP. According to conspiracy theorists, one of its main highlights is “manipulation of weather.” Last year, DiversityHuman.com published an article describing HAARP as the cause of the earthquake in Japan and the devastating tsunami.

For now, I’ll leave the judgment to you. Please take some time and watch 500MPH STORM. Forget the awful effects of the movie, just concentrate and witness how they created the monster storm. Also, try to check if the film is suggesting a very good working model on how to stop a ravaging storm.
