Transgender Jenna Talackova eliminated from Miss Universe Canada
Toronto, Canada -
Jenna Talackova, the first-ever transgender contestant to compete in the Miss Universe Canada pageant strutted the runway Saturday night was stumped in her bid to win the title.
The blond Vancouver-born beauty queen got a place in the final 12, but missed a chance to compete in the final five. Jenna Talackova who forced Donald Trump and his Miss Universe Canada pageant to end its ban on transgender contestants, ends her campaign for the international Miss Universe title.
Sahar Biniaz, 26, an Indian-born, Iranian-raised actress from Vancouver claimed the crown. Biniaz advances and will represent Canada to the international Miss Universe competition in December.
Talackova refused to speak to the media after the competition, but Biniaz said Talackova had congratulated her on her win at the back stage. Biniaz added that she admired Talackova for having the courage to compete in the pageant.
In an interview hours before showtime, the 6-foot-1 Talackova seemed a bit weary, as the spotlight was still squarely on her gender transformation.
Nonetheless, she didn't walk away from the pageant empty-handed. In addition to finishing among the top 12 semi-finalists, Talackova tied with three other contestants for the title of Miss Congeniality.
Transgender Controversy
The controversy surrounding her participation in Miss Universe Canada sparked this spring after a blogger recognized her from the transsexual beauty contest in Thailand and posted about it.
Talackova then hired women's rights lawyer Gloria Allred, and the pageant's co-owner, Donald Trump, was left with no choice but to change the rules and let Talackova compete.
