Serena Jameka Williams (born September 26, 1981) is an American professional tennis player and a former world No. 1. She is dubbed as one of the all-time greats of professional tennis, having achieved a decade-long dominance of the game. She earned major titles from Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open. Best known for her power and finesse in competition. 1.jpg

However, behind the powerful swings, strokes and swift strikes, Serena Williams doesn't love the sport at all. Days ago after winning her opening match of the 2012 tennis season, she said "I don't love tennis today but I'm here. I can't live without it -- there's a difference between not loving something and not being able to live without it. I have never liked sports and could never understand how I became an athlete." Serena went on to say that she doesn't like working out or training and that her 2012 schedule will be scaled back in order to provide her rest for big tournaments. The lighter slate also is intended to keep her motivated.

2.jpg Her confession is not new to tennis enthusiasts and other tennis players. Andre Agassi mentioned that Serena seems to only love the winning and is willing to put up with what it takes to get there. The grind doesn't interest her much.

Well, I also wonder what version of a scaled back schedule was she pointing out, since she never plays a very full schedule and seems to only focus on the Australian, Miami, Wimbledon, the US Open and occasionally the YEC. Those are just a handful of tournaments. She always seems to either not play others or when she does, Serena seems not to care much about the major tennis tournaments.

As for not loving the game, there are things that you don't love but later you will find out that you indeed love what you are doing. Maybe what what she really meant was all about her motivation and not really about loving the game itself. Or she just simply have a lot of attitude problems. 3.jpg

A lot of commentators also criticitized her for lacking sportsmanship. She has been into on-court controversies. She was on the sports headline when she gestured her racket to the lineswoman who had made the call and yelled at her, including profanities. William's behavior and unsportsmanlike conduct led to the maximum permissible on-site fine of $10,000 (plus $500 for racquet abuse) and later fined $175,000 and suspension to US open and Grand slam events.
