Bomb Threat at LTFRB main office in QC
An alleged bomb threat at the office of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Quezon City prompted the evacuation of staff and clients from the building at around 9:40 a.m on Monday.
Several news outlets reported that a female LTFRB utility worker received a phone call from a man who introduced himself as a disgruntled employee of bus company Philtranco and warned her regarding the bombs planted in the main office. The man purportedly provided her the bomb locations.
“Nagmamagandang loob lang, naapi sa Philtranco. Nagmagandang loob, may inilagay na granada, apat. Bumaba na kayo, isa sa CR, isa sa labas,” the unidentified suspect said.
The LFTRB employee immediately reported the bomb threat to the Quezon City Police District. The authority quickly rushed into the scene but the female utility worker was reportedly the person who found the MK2 fragmentation hand grenade. It was discovered at around 10:30 a.m., at a water tank of a toilet bowl at the third floor men’s toilet near the legal office and the janitor’s area of the building.
The explosives and ordnance division (EOD) led by Insp. Noel Sublay swept through the building, conducting a paneling search and declared it safe from any harm at around Monday noon. The bomb scare disrupted work at the government office for around two hours, said LTFRB chairman Winston Ginez.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Lemuel Obon, chief of Quezon City Police District Station 10, said the person who planted the grenade had no intention of hurting anyone as the grenade had its pin still intact. Police theorized that the explosive was obviously placed by someone who managed to enter the LTFRB compound. Insp. Sublay said they would review surveillance video recording inside the LTFRB to check if the person who planted the grenade was caught on camera. -ABS-CBN, PDI, & InterAksyon news
