Lawyer of Jennifer Laude and Family Demand 200 Million and US Visas
A whopping P200 million lawsuit charges is reportedly the latest demand of Jennifer Laude's lawyer and family "in exchange for dropping the case", the PhilStar reports.
Rowena Flores, lawyer of the accused US Marine Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton, claimed that a reliable source communicated to her the overwhelming demand of Laude's family including six(6) US Visas. The transmitted information is allegedly on top of the initial demand of P21.6 million. The additional amount was purportedly sent to the defense counsel by the victim's lawyer herself, Atty. Virgie Suarez.
According to reports, Marilou-the sister of Jennifer Laude, made a formal declaration requesting the suspect to pay them with such colossal amount on the basis of "moral and exemplary damages". However, the sister of the victim later denied the claim regarding the Visa request and firmly stressed that she only wants to receive the total amount of P200 million despite her mother's refusal to file it in court.
It is not clear why the sister of Marilou is defying her mother's appeal to stop the P200 million payment demand. Others are also asking if the lawyer of Jennifer Laude is the actual person behind the plan. Skeptical netizens also arguing online if the family of Jennifer Laude is really sincere to settle the case in court rather than demanding a payment since Philippines doesn't have a law relating to "blood money" as compared to Arab countries.
